Messenger bag
Last week, my daughter's book bag gave up the ghost completely. Damn mass-produced things. Anyway, I made her a replacement.

The basic style came from this tutorial on mmmcrafts, but I altered the measurements so it could fit her books in it. I used craft cottons found in the remnant bin for the outside, stitched together with a zig zag stitch (it will fray a little, but that's all part of the charm), while the lining is a heavy cotton drill. The top flap is a little too wide, but I thought it would make it a little more drip proof by not having a gap between bag and straps.
