slip stitch / interfacing

Two questions, not entirely unrelated.
Have you found any good tutorials on slip-stitching? My slip stitching looks childish. I want professional, invisible, couture seams, dammit. Advice?
Second question: I've recently finished a skirt made from 2 silk scarves w/ a cotton knit lining (box pleat in the front, elasticized [sewn into the top of the lining] in the back). For a better finish, I need to add interfacing to the front, but I don't want to use the freaky 70's polyester interfacing. What's a good alternative? Natural fibers, stabilizing but not too heavy weight (both the silk woven and the cotton knit are very drapey)?
