Making brooches

I found an awesome tutorial on Violet Elephant for making very simple brooches from fabric with cardboard backs for stability.

These two are ones that the blogger made and demonstrated in her tutorial. I was so excited that I made one too:

Sorry about the slight blur. I used felt and machine appliqued on the bat. I used plastic cut from a clearfile cover as the backing, just in case it accidentally goes through the wash. I also covered the gap in the back with a little square of felt and used a proper brooch pin, not a safety pin. I am all about making things built for surviving the washing machine.
